Full Stack Web Developer Bootcamp

I hope this feedback will help someone.

2020 was a tough year for everyone. I was retrenched from my job last year and used my provident funds to pay for this course. Start over. I should have done my homework better.

I had a few issues. *1- Content I paid 25k for the full-time course. I am a visual learner. 80% of Hyperion's content is pdf content. I paid (R300) extra for a Udemy course which was AMAZING. It was a lifesaver. Videos and exercises, making web pages. Learned so much more with the R300 course than with the 25k course. (please also note, if you still do decide to study with Hyperion take the part-time course, it is cheaper and no difference in what you receive. If you wish to finish it in 3 months, then do so) I did ask for more content but only received some videos taken in an actual class after I complained.

*2- Feedback After every module, you have a task to hand in to get reviewed and to get feedback. Your task example was to display something. I could not get it right. After struggling with it I handed it in as-is, not displaying on a webpage. The feedback I got was as follow- 100%, great work, I can see you understand the work, etc. But I did not do what was requested!! How are they giving 100%. It was not constructive feedback. It happened on a few tasks. Complained and asked how are you giving me 100%. Clearly, I am not understanding something. (Who complains for getting 100%, but if you want to learn and you know it's wrong, you expect feedback like : I see it is not displaying, or I see you are struggling with this, try this or something, redo and hand in again.)

*3- Appointments with mentors You had to wait long to get appointments. Or it just gets canceled after waiting a week for an appointment, your mentor is on leave. No arrangements made to cover this mentor. I did complain about this and then appointments were more available(why do you have to get to complaining to get results)Mentor was also not a great teacher. he would re-read what is in the content. Did not help to explain, I googled most. Do not see the value for the mentor I had(can't speak for all).

*4- Cost I do not see the value of 25k paid for this course from Hyperion. It's not for content, it's not for mentorship. What is it for?

Unforeseen things happen that I could not finish in the time frame given of 6 months. I requested access to all modules because you do not have so from the beginning. If I did not request this, my time would have expired with no access. I am self-studying still and building a portfolio. I do not have the money to pay again for the same course to complete it. I also noticed on Hyperiondev student's Discord(where you get most of your assistance from other students, not mentors) that after they finish they struggle to get feedback for the career assistance. This also scared me.

I was so excited when I started, but I regret so much spending all that money with Hyperion.

No one followed up with me really. I was phoned 1 Friday afternoon, but I was in the shops and asked them to call me back. ( I assume that was a follow up because I fell behind, but not 100% sure why they called) I am still waiting. (they phone you enthusiastically several times to get you to confirm and pay for the course that's for sure)

I must say, every time I complained they would try to assist, but why must it get to that point.

One more thing, try not to do your course over the Christmas period as they close over that time period and there will be no one to assist or mark tasks. So of your paid 6 months, you lose 2 weeks.

I hope this was helpful. I am still self-studying and learning so much every moment I get. Building my portfolio. This is still the career path I am changing into. Just not with Hyperion
