HW Seta Gauteng branch completely ineffective and needs proper management and qualified staff

I am actually at my wits end in trying to get re registered as an assessor and moderator.

I am so frustrated and I do not know what to do, as I have tried unsuccessfully to get reregistered through the correct processes for over 2 years now, but this has not worked.

I have a PhD in education and Masters in Process Engineering and Safety and the Environment. I am a member of the Engineering Council. I have evaluated Environmental Engineers from all over the world in becoming a Professional Engineers.

I have accredited universities programmes, including Health and Safety departments and their curriculums.

I have developed several OHS courses for clients, for my own training companies, and assisted companies to become accredited with myself as assessor or moderator.

When I originally app**** for registration, the curriculum of the Chemical Engineering degree was looked at, including the environmental sections and health and safety sections.

What you need to understand is that Chemical Engineering of all the Engineering disciplines is focused primarily on Safety. The majority of Chemical Engineers working in the field actually work in areas to do with Occupational health and Safety. The reason can be seen in the overview of the Chemical Engineering Programme in the annual Year Books of the various Universities. See below for a word for word example from the Durban University of Technology.

Chemical Engineering is involved with the physical and chemical transformation of raw materials into finished products. Chemical Engineering Technologists focus on the chemical and physical processes used in the manufacturing industry. They are employed across a wide range of manufacturing environments such pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, iron and steel, food and beverages, water and waste water treatment. In these industries, they investigate the nature of chemical reactions, process and equipment optimisation, commissioning and design, trouble shooting and problem solving. Typical job functions involve analysing raw materials and final products, quality assurance, research and development, technical sales and service, and production or process control. Chemical engineering graduates can also focus their work on environmental, health and safety management, as many of the industrial processes release pollutants into environment that can be harmful to humans and the environment.

The Chemical Engineering syllabus covers everything in the OHS qualifications and much more and at a higher level. i.e. at level 7,8 and 9. I have done the Diploma, National Diploma, Bachelor of Technology and Masters Degree all in Chemical Engineering and the Environment.

The last 2 years I have lost at least 5 clients due to me not having my registration. The documents and attachments that I have sent the last two years have either been lost or misplaced.

Richard Molefe, from the Gauteng branch has been the reason for me not being registered. (please see the whatsapp discussions attached above) He then tells me that it will be sorted out in the next few days, sometimes he says over the next few weeks, but I try to follow up and he says that he is working on it.

I whatsapped him too, phoned him, left messages for him, waited for him at the office, but I can never get anywhere with him. One of my clients tried to get hold of the KZN branch to register me and it was rejected. Richard said that since it was rejected by KZN, he would be unable to assist me any more.

I do not know what the reason is that he is so against me, but he is ruining my business and I have lost R100s of thousands of Rands in revenue because of him. But I am unable to be reregistered according to Richard, as I have not got the required background. This is hard to believe since I am an expert and specialist in this area and have worked in this area for many years too and lectured as Head of Chemical Engineering at UJ and Senior lecturer the Environmental subjects. Also I have created many courses for the Engineering Council in Occupational Health and Safety and focused on Waste Management, Air Pollution, Noise Pollution, SHE and many other related courses all at a level of 7 and higher.

I still have the SOR’s of students that got their qualification through me as assessor or moderator or facilitator, either through my own training companies, Sakhisisizwe, Lankon Group, Roshec and others that I have worked for.

I could submit the courses again as a learner, and get an assessor and moderator to assess and moderate, but this would be counterproductive, as I have developed all the material myself, and it would be like I am copying and pasting my own material, which in the past has been sufficient for other learners to get their qualifications.

This is the last straw, as the training company that has asked me to facilitate this course has given me til tomorrow to show that I am registered, and then if I am not, I will be replaced and lose more business and my reputation.
