Ignoring Consumer Protection Act

I bought jumpers for my son and I at the Waterfront store. They said I can return the item within 14 days for whatever reason if not used. When I got home I tried it on and it didn’t fit properly. Within the 14 day period I went to the canal walk store (8 Jan 22) to return the item only for store manager to refuse to refund me as it was a sale item. I explained to her that I was unaware that it was a sale item and of this draconian rule (I’m also sure this goes against the Consumer Protection Act) and she called the V&A store and they also refused to assist me with a refund. They did offer an exchange but why must I needlessly purchase another item I don’t need? I do a lot of shopping at Hurley but after this incident I will rather shop elsewhere. Will be taking this up with Consumer Protection watchdog.
