Huawei S.Africa terrible service will close you down.
I have been a happy and loyal Huawei user for almost 3 years. Love their devices. Currently using a P10+ for almost two years. Absolutely perfect service from the phone with no issues whatsoever...UNTIL I give my phone to Huawei Melrose arch to fit a new battery. They were running a special (R200 for a new battery). Being the happy Huawei user that I am, I decided to fit the new battery so I could stick with the P10+ for another two years or more. So I headed over to Huawei Melrose Arch. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. I feel like I should have went on using the phone as it was since it wasn't giving me any trouble. 27 November is when I booked the phone in with them for the battery replacement. O what a big mistake. I was told that it will be ready on the same day, but it could take between 2 and 3 days due to a backlog. I accepted that, even though changing a battery as I've witnessed at other tech workshops takes no more than an hour. Two days later (29 November) I contacted the customer care to enquire regarding progress. I spoke to Palesa who assured me that the store would contact me by the next day. No such thing happened. So I went down there on the morning of Saturday the 30th of November which was THREE FULL DAYS after I left the device with them. I was flying out of the country at 2pm that day and required some information on the device. But they said that it wan not ready and that it would only be ready by 11:30am! I was not able to wait that long as I needed to prepare to travel that day. So I said I will return at 11:30 to collect on my way to the airport. At 11:30am I'm told that it's still not ready! Absurd! A simple battery replacement! I left for the airport without my phone as I couldn't risk missing my flight. I said I would collect on Monday after I returned from travel. I went down to the store for the 3rd time today (Tuesday, 3 December) to collect the device. This has by now cost me R30 rands of parking, apart from the time and inconvenience of going up and down to the store. I was pleased to hear that the device was ready and the battery had been replaced. But I was unpleasantly surprised once again by the great incompetence of the so called technician. The phone's LCD has began malfunctioning after it was worked on at this Huawei store. It is rather extraordinary that the LCD is damaged after the battery was changed. So I needed to charge the battery which was at 0% in order for me to test the phone. Hence when it got to 2% power I noticed the problem with the LCD. I asked for the technician to come and see what this was about. He sent for the phone and did not come out to see me and explain in person. The message he sent was that that was alcohol behind the screen causing the white spots and that it would clear up completely within a few days. It's not 12 hours since I collected the phone and the spots have not even began clearing up as I type this. Over and above that, a 10 min WhatsApp call has for the first time ever made the phone heat up like a burning coal! Never experienced this aver before. I really should not have entrusted Huawei Melrose arch with my phone. Ever.
From the many many reviews on Huawei Melrose Arch technician/repair staff I notice that the repairs dept is absolutely ***********.
A note to Huawei Enterprises South Africa: Please understand that if your stores don't jack up, Huawei is going to lose face in South Africa and will not be popular and will surely lose revenue. These people working for Huawei must realise that their jobs depend on how they work.
So back to my story, I called customer care earlier this evening and spoke to Tuli who advised that the matter will be 'escalated' and that someone should call me tomorrow about my problem. I will wait for the call. If not, I will head down there and expect to be met by the manager. I must be recompensed for the 40 rands of parking cost, petrol, and my time. I must also receive an apology in the form of a new LCD fitted in a day and my phone working as it did before. If not, I really do deserve a new device or at least a credit towards a new device. I will be forced to take this the legal route if Huawei Enterprises South Africa does nothing to fix this situation.
