A faulty battery replacement gone completely awry.
I cannot believe the complete lack of service or assistance received at Huawei Service Station Melrose Arch yesterday morning. The staff seem to think that an unsatisfied/ annoyed customer is merely an interference in their day and will do anything to delay assisting you in the hopes that you will leave. Although if you persist and eventually receive some service they will go out of there way to explain why they cannot help you instead of trying to resolve your problem. I noted multiple other frustrated customers in the shop at the same time as me who also ended up leaving dissatisfied. When there are multiple unhappy customers, I think it is an apt reflection of the staff and service received rather than the individual customers. I went in there to get a replacement battery for a Huawei P8 Lite, which according to their website and call centre (which is the only contact information for the store) is possible for R145 with an installation fee of R250. I was also informed by the call centre that I could purchase the battery and install it myself, against their recommendation, if I so wish. Upon arrival at the shop I was informed that I cannot replace just the battery and must replace the screen (which is not broken) and the battery for R1090 because it is "tricky" to replace just the battery and so the screen must be replaced to. In other words it is highly likely that the technicians will damage the screen during the repair and so I should just purchase a new screen to make up for the technicians incompetence. This completely contraindicates the sign regarding the Huawei repair policy in the shop that states that they cannot replace non broken parts in the phone without my permission, and that they can replace faulty batteries. After spending nearly two hours at the centre either trying to talk to the store manager (who is frequently conveniently unavailable and can be seen sitting on his phone in the back) or on multiple phone calls to the Huawei call centre I eventually left completely unsatisfied with the service and without a replacement battery as that, according to the store, is a completely unachievable request. I cannot fathom how a service centre for the specified device can be of less assistance than a third party repair centre or why I must spend over R1000 on a repair that should cost me less than R500.
