This is what is published on their web site:
We regulate health professionals in South Africa and we are set up to protect the public. We only register professionals who meet our standards for their training, professional skills and behaviour. We thus have the power to institute disciplinary proceedings regarding any complaint, charge or allegation of unprofessional conduct against any person registered with Council. If a registered practitioner transgresses the rules as laid down by the Board, the practitioner will be subjected to a disciplinary process in terms of the regulations.
My complaint war lodged in January 2015, against a Health Professional.
Instead of helping this person gave the wrong medication, which send my health haywire. When seeing this person again, they admitted that the wrong medication was given.
This cost me 42 days in medical care, medical tests, and seeing other medical professionals to help me to regain some of my normal health.
HPCSA confirmed that they received my complaint, but here comes the funny part.
The health professional, has 40 days to respond, NOTHING so far.
Are they really helping us, or protecting the guilty party.
