Based on recent customer reviews, HPCSA is described as a regulatory body where registration applications, restorations and certificate requests stall for months, leaving students and practitioners unable to study, work or earn. Reviewers report unanswered emails, calls that ring out or are cut off, and complaints that sit in escalation without written feedback. Patients who lodged misconduct complaints feel the Council shields practitioners rather than protecting them, with investigations dragging past legal deadlines. In-office queues, single-counter service and inconsistent online practitioner records add further frustration.

******ion for our qualifications we worked hard for
The current consultants at the HPCSA office do not understand the circumstances of the system. Currently my registration was restored and everything paid for including annual fee, as outlined on my service questions history. Now I get an email stating that I still have another R1.9k to pay for annual fee which they can’t even explain why. Tjoh💔

Poor service and not living up to what their expected to do
Bad and slow service I’m currently a health student that needs to be registered with HPCSA but till this day I have not received my HPCSA certificate where as I paid ever amount last year but they have failed to process my things which lead to my application being cancelled for what reason I’m not sure because I’ve paid, what pains the most is that I need to be registered with this department and I need the certificate in order to progress within my studies, I have been calling and calling since last year and each time they promise my matter will be sorted but still nothing. I don’t know what to do anymore

Poor services
I submitted a request for restoration on the 1st of April 2026, up to date I have received any help or update, I make follow ups weekly without getting any help. I was told to send an email I've sent it numerous time but I haven't received any single response. I don't know what to do anymore because I needed the certificate by end of May as I am applying for school and applications are closing on the 31st of May. The last call I made the lady I spoke to said my application is awaiting approval from a team leader I told her it's been waiting for this approval since the 20th of April and I asked her to put me through to the team leader to make a follow up she refused, she said she will make a follow-up and I will receive communication on my e-mails, it's been over a week now I haven't received any communication. Now I'm stuck I don't know what to do

Complaint Regarding Poor Service and Long Waiting Times
I am extremely disappointed with the service at the HPCSA offices. I have been sitting in a queue the entire morning, yet there is only one person assisting a very long line of people. The process is painfully slow, and it takes an unreasonable amount of time to assist just one individual. What is most frustrating is how much the service has deteriorated over the years. Previously, things were more organized and efficient, but now there seems to be no structure or order at all. People are left waiting for hours without clear communication or direction. This level of inefficiency is unacceptable, especially for professionals who have taken time out of their busy schedules expecting a functional system. There is a serious need for improved staffing, better queue management, and overall service delivery.

Hypocritical Actions.
Almost two years later and I have not progressed with my complaint. The law only protects you for three years to take a medical practitioner to court for Negligence or Malpractice. The HPCSA only protects their own members, not the public. What happened to the Hypocratic Oath?

Electrophysiologist Cardiologist Joke
The HPCSA adds no value and only protects its members not the Patients that are harmed. They Delay Appeal Hearings so that you get frustrated and give up. Not me, I will see you and the Electrophysiologist Cardiologist in The High Court!

Two Years of Delays, No Compensation, No Empathy – HPCSA Complaint Process
I am writing this review out of deep frustration with the handling of my complaint by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). In December 2021, I suffered severe facial burns and internal gum injuries during a dental procedure performed by Dr Minaar at Birchleigh Clinic. Incorrect equipment was used, resulting in burns from inside my mouth to my cheek, torn gums, long-term scarring, and ongoing complications. The impact on my life has been devastating: I could not eat or speak properly for months. I had to syringe food into my mouth. I incurred over R70,000 in specialist and medical costs. I lost income due to being unable to work. I now live with permanent scarring and a keloid on my face. I experience ongoing trauma and fear of returning to a dentist. I reported the matter to the HPCSA in good faith, believing that the regulatory body exists to protect patients and ensure accountability. However, the process took nearly two years. Throughout this time: I repeatedly followed up with little meaningful feedback. I submitted extensive documentation, photographs, receipts and medical reports. I received minimal empathy or reassurance. Communication felt procedural rather than supportive. I was eventually informed that the matter was concluded under professional conduct proceedings and that any fine imposed is paid to the HPCSA — not to the complainant — as it is not a civil compensation process. This means that: The dentist may have paid a fine. The HPCSA retained that payment. I, as the injured patient, received nothing. After two years of waiting, trauma, financial loss and emotional exhaustion, there was no compensation, no assistance with medical costs, and no meaningful support offered. While I understand that the HPCSA is not a civil court, the experience has left me feeling unheard and unsupported. A regulatory body should not only discipline practitioners but also ensure that complainants are treated with dignity, empathy, and transparency throughout the process. Instead, the delays and lack of communication added to the trauma I was already experiencing. I share this review in the hope that: The HPCSA improves turnaround times. Complainants are treated with greater empathy and communication. Patients are better informed from the start about what outcomes to realistically expect. No patient should feel re-traumatised by the very system meant to protect them.
