Refuse to test a dvd, rather wants to sell you a Blu Ray machine

I went to House & Home last Saturday to buy a dvd. Just a cheap one to keep the little occupied watching his nursery rhymes & Barnie movies. I went with the movies on a flash to test whether it would read on the dvd as I have a dvd, but unfortunately it only reads avi formats & his stuff is mp4 or mkv. The consultant refused to let me test it on their dvd as it's against their company policy. I told them that I don't want to buy a machine that's not going to fulfill the purpose as I already have one that isn't playing the formats. They rather tried to sell me a blu ray player of R1400. I left looking at other shops. I couldn't find another furniture store in the mall & came back again. I asked to speak to the manager, but he wouldn't give me the time of day & just referred back to the same consultant I spoke to before. When I bought a stove their, I was a good customer as I spent over two grand in the store. Now that I want to buy a R300 dvd, I'm treated like a piece of trash whose wishes cannot be accommodated. Well done House & Home. Great way to get me to come and buy more appliances in the future.
