Carpet tiles
Now I am making this House & Home's problem. About 16 months ago we decided to carpet out our flat for health reasons. After many quotations and inquiries we decided on Van Dyk loose lay carpets. We got the Van Dyk guarantee. Main reason was the fact that it was transportable (when we move) and supposed to handle foot traffic. After a year we had a shocker. Some of the carpet tiles started smelling. No water damage as they were in the center of a room. Upon lifting many of them we saw that the rubber started dissolving on the floor tiles, leaving horrible brown / black stains. Needless to say, quite a few had to be discarded. Now we sit with a heap of tiles, costing well around R20000 that is useless. Today I hear from Ethol of van Dyk that in order to keep the guarantee, carpet tiles needs to be steamcleaned every six months. SOMETHING THAT WE WERE NEVER TOLD! Otherwise we would never have bought them.
