Bad Service to customers
I recently purchased a L-shape sofa from House & Home after afew months of searching (I had a certain feel that I was looking for and believed I found this here). I was walking through the store with my wife on Saturday the 22nd September 2018 as this was an exit point to the parkade of a mall in Sandton and noticed the sofa on promotion and sat on it and felt it was what we were looking for. We called a sales person (Eddie) who asked if we wanted to buy today, to which my wife enquired if the sale would still be available the following day (Sunday the 23rd September 2018) as we were in a hurry. Eddie advised yes and that it will end on the Sunday and recommended we pay immediately to avoid loss on stock. As we were in a hurry, we told him we will come back the next day, on the Sunday, to which we were presented with Eddie's business card. Upon arrival on Sunday morning (the 23rd September 2018) we asked another female employee if Eddie was available, she said she wasn't sure and would look. She also informed us that a sale would run the following day (Monday the 24th September 2018) and we could get the floor item for 15% off the promotional amount, (again) my wife asked if the sale would be available on the Monday (24th September 2018) and the female checked at her desk and confirmed it would be. To us, this seemed like a good option as we could buy other items in our new home which we would need. Eddie comes over and when we ask about the sale on Monday, he admonishes the female employee and then informs us that they do not allow sales on promotional items, only original costs. We did our math and a sofa of original price (R10 999) with 15% off would cost us R9 349.15. The promotional cost is R8 999. Logically, due to Eddie's advice, a brand new sofa at R8 999 is much more value for money (especially to newly weds furnishing their new home) when compared to a sofa on display for R9 349.15. (Keep in mind that a 15% discount over the promotion would have been R7 649.15). We were not happy but loved the sofa so we paid for a new sofa at R8 999 and was looking to ask the manager. At the cashiers, I asked the lady behind the desk and she responded that she does not even know what I purchased, Eddie again reiterated that they do not allow discounts on top of promotional items. Eddie called me on Tuesday the 26th September 2018 to inform me that the sofa was ready for collection. I then called the managed to ask about the 15% discount policy, to which the manager informs me that the discount is applicable over and above the promotional amount. I was not happy as Eddie had costed me R1349.85 which I could have saved toward something else in my home. I informed the manager of the incident to which he said he will speak to Eddie. I get a call back and am told that Eddie charged me the promotional amount because I had wanted a new sofa. We arrived at the store that evening to collect the sofa and speak to the manager. He told us the promotion had indeed ended on Sunday (23rd September 2018) and we loaded our sofa and on leaving, saw in a current sales leaflet that the sofa was on promotion till the 7th Octer 2018. When the manager was questioned on this, he said that he thought we bought a different sofa and will speak to his supervisor call me back the next day. The next day (Thursday the 27th September 2018), the manager calls my wife and informs her that they had come to a decision that there is nothing they can do. I am not happy about this as Eddie was dishonest on multiple occasions and has resulted with my wife and I losing on a saving of R1349.85, I know this is a substantial amount but this affects our pockets and as a customer in the store, it is absolutely unacceptable. The manager handled this very badly and basically proved to us that he got his sale and doesn't care beyond that point. It has been very bad service from a sales person and very bad handling of a manager of a retail store. I will never visit, let alone purchase from House & Home again.
