Bad service from House & Home Tiger Valley Centre Bellville

I recently – 08/04/2017 - bought a 2 seater coach at House & Home in Tiger Valley centre, Bellville. When the coach was delivered, the one side was not as firm as the other side – the colour also slightly differed. I made a note of this discrepancy on the delivery note and also called them to get the problem fixed. During one of my numerous telephone calls, the sales man told me that the coach that was delivered to me was actually a broken one that was fixed and then sold to me. I am not sure whether this is the standard practice of the House & Home group and whether this is only a practice of the specific branch. After numerous calls, they did deliver a new coach to me.

Unfortunately my daughter and her husband bought during the same period a lounge suite from House & Home in Tiger Valley centre, Bellville. On 09/04/2017 they paid R17 349.00 via EFT for the lounge suite and the delivery fee. This is how there nightmare goes:

When the furniture was delivered, it was found that there was something wrong with the recliner function on the one side of the three seater coach. My daughter & her husband contacted them and the lady said that they will deliver a new suite the Monday or Tuesday.

When no one showed up, my daughter called them again. A women with a not-so-friendly attitude told her that House & Home will not replace the lounge suite; they will send someone to their house to fix it.

Needless to say, this is not acceptable; even though the suite was on their “special offer” neither the sales man nor the person who accepted the payment told them that House & Home was selling broken furniture as brand new.

After numerous calls – the women who dealt with the complaint the first time denied that she spoke to my daughter - the manager arranged for another suite to be delivered very late that evening. During the conversation with the manager I mentioned that the sale was about to be cancelled.

House & Home sent their people to fetch the lounge suite that was delivered the first time and to replace it with the new suite.

On delivery of the “new suite”, it was found that both sides of the three seater coach were broken. My daughter made the note on the delivery note.

As the delivery was done very late the evening, my daughter contacted House & Home Tiger Valley Bellville the following day (19/04/2017) and cancelled the deal; requesting them to pick up the broken furniture and to refund their money.

House & Home Tiger Valley sent their people to pick up the broken furniture. However, my daughter & her husband still did not receive their money back.

My daughter and her husband visited the House & Home branch today, 28/04/2017, and was told that “the sale has not been cancelled” and House & Home “has to wait for money” before they can refund them. This is very disturbing.

Now if the sale has not been cancelled, how could House & Home instruct their people to remove the furniture from their house?

What does it mean that House & Home “has to wait for money” before they can do the refund?

In the meantime House & Home enjoys the benefit of the customer’s money in their bank account; they are receiving interest on a daily basis. This all while my daughter and her husband is out of pocket, not receiving interest and they cannot even start looking for another lounge suite as their money is in the pocket of House & Home Tiger Valley Bellville.
