Booked and paid but never booked at the guesthouse and did not receive my money

I was searching for accomodation in east london for the weekend of 12 - 14 January 2018 to attend the ANC rally. I then went to trivago to look for places of sleep. I was then directed to hotels.com to confirm my booking into Maranatha guest house. I followed the booking confirmation prompts until I paid around R3600 for two nights for 3 rooms. My booking number: ********** 57039 which was confirmed on a screen and I took a picture of that screen in order to save my booking number. My surprise was when I called the guesthouse to inform them that I will be arriving later than the scheduled time. I was then told they are fully booked from 2 weeks back and they had 3 other similar cases from Trivago on that day. The guesthouse also said there are many more people calling to confirm their bookings and they say they've paid.
