SKY HOTEL - Infinity Restaurant

On the 24th December, 5 ladies took a trip from Gordon;s Bay into Cape Town to enjoy an outing, our Christmas luncheon, and booked at the Hotel Sky.

It took many calls to secure our booking, as we wanted the Captain Table at the Restaurant, and after many phone calls to and fro we eventaully got the booking, and although they wanted a deposit for the table, Brandon the Manager eventually waivered this booking and said our booking was secure but had to be there at 12h00 as the restaurant was but.

We arrived to all the glitz, was fabulous to be able to use the hotel parking, entrance was wonderful, and then went up to the Infinity Restaurant for luncheon. When we arrived there were only two persons sitting at the Captain table and they were then moved to allow us to be seated.

The waiter never sanitised the table before we sat down, the table was poorly set, nothing in its proper place. The menu's were tatty, but the view was superb.

We started off by ordering our drinks, 4 ****tails and 1 alcohol free beer. We waited, and we waited, and we waited, eventually were told that the person who keeps the key to the liquor cupboard was late for work (really) who allows a worker to take the keys home.

The drinks came, the beer was poured behind my back, I did not see the bottle or him open the bottle, and the glass placed in front of me, the bottle was taken away - not correct service delivery for a hotel of this quality.

The menu to say the least was so disappointing, we are in a top class restaurant, with views to die for, and the menu was: Garden Salad, Fish and Chips, Burgers (I think chicken or beef) and two kinds of Pasta - that was it - what a disappointment, everything we could cook at home and do. This is a 'Indian' themed hotel, not a single curry or anything on the menu, and to add to that no desserts. The meal took for ever to be served. I then realised when we arrived there was not a soul in the kitchen, it was one waiter on the floor and another female - could have being a waitress. Our food I surmise was cooked in a kitchen somewhere in the hotel and brought up to the dining room and that it why that also took so long. The fish and chips was the best, the pasta was under cooked and the chicken in it was a tough as can be, tasted boiled, really not good, two of us just pushed it aside.

Such a disappointment - where was a white tablecloths, properly set table instead of a knife and fork wrapped in a serviette and plonked on a place with a plastic table mat on a marble table - really. To add to this all - we were the only guests in the restaurant - so, so much for a full house - the question is do they do luncheon or not, because when we were leaving, all the staff were at their posts starting to prep for the evening meal - what a shame a day out that was absolutely the worst dining out experience, we could have gone local and had a top class meal.

Our coffee - they had to go out and buy the almond milk for a cuppachino before being served so three got their coffee whilst two waited, and waited, and waited.

Our waiter forgot to add a glass of wine what one person had to the bill, we told him, he went away and came back shortly thereafter to add it on manually and we paid, we knew exactly where that R75.00 went.

Sorry to say what a let down, one star for the view - and the rest was terrible. What a let down, never to be repeated that is for sure. I don't blame the staff, I blame management, staff not trained, menu so poor what a let down. If one goes to the website and sees what the Infinity offers, well we got nothing like that from the table setting to the food - it was shameful and total waste of a trip planned which was to be our Christmas function - thank goodness were could go to Moro Gelato and have a superb ice-cream - because the hotel did not even have that to offer.
