Hosmed totally misrepresented themselves and "stole" contributions
When I joined Hosmed I could only afford their lowest scheme plan. I was however assured that all emergency/casualty or in hospital treatment would be covered. GP visits for example would also be covered. Up to date they have yet to pay for a single claim.
They have taken contributions since May 2017 after dragging their feet for 2 months just to get me approved for membership. With cover only kicking in after 3 months.
They excluded my pregnancy, which I accepted as well as any treatment for my asthma for the first 12 months. Asthma is funnily enough one of the few thins they should have covered as the Essential plan only covers PMB conditions as I was informed yesterday.
They have also accepted the increased contributions after adding my son after he was born in October. It took me over a month to get him added too.
After taking my son to Sunward Park hospital (04/12/2017) to be treated for vomiting and diarrhea I was contacted by the hospital a week later and informed that my claim was rejected.
The call centre operators were less than understanding and could not understand my frustration and misconseption of the claim not being paid by Hosmed, simply stating that it was a non PMB condition.
I actually had to go and google what a PMB condition was as the call centre employees could not be bothered to explain what it was.
I have cancelled my membership with them as I have contributed R12360.00 this year and they have by my record paid for less than R400.00 worth of expences. I have not even started to calculate what I have had to spend on medical servises and medication since I have joined Hosmed, but I am now left with more than R6000.00 in hospital, doctor and laboratory fees that the will not cover.
The answers I got from Hosmed was simply "you should have known" and "you could always move to two plans up". Firstly, how was I to know if i was given wrongful information and assurances from your intake and membership callcentre employees? Secondly, I would be on the higher plan if I could afford it.
Now I am stuck with all these medical bills after paying for medical benefits that I would never be able to use unless myself or my son developed one of the 13 dread diseases that they would cover.
How many others have been victims of this sham of a "medical aid". All Hosmed has done was take my money and laugh at me each time I tried to claim.
I even had to pay cash upfront to see a GP that was on their approved service provider list. I will never be refunded any monies that I had to pay for services they were supposed to cover.
Thanks Hosmed for your brilliant non service and mostly rude and uncaring call centre operators. Not even taking into account the hours that i had to be on hold before I could even get to an actual (if mostly inneffective, un able to assist) human being (and I use the term loosely as they are more often than not rude or just cut the call when they no longer feel like "dealing" with you).
