Fire Hazard!

I’m here to report a dangerous situation that happened at Homii Maison (56 Joe Slovo Street/Field street). There was load shedding at 12am to 2am, I was woken up because I was inhaling smoke and coughing. When I went outside the corridor was filled with smoke,I couldn’t even see my own feet. When I got downstairs outside I immediately called the Fire Department, when they arrived we went upstairs to check what had happened, when we got upstairs Fezile told the fire fighters that there was no smoke even though the fire fighters could see the smoke. He then showed us the generator and it turns out the generator was discharging dangerous smoke with toxins in it. The fire fighter said we should wait before we return inside because the smoke is dangerous and deadly. After the fire fighters left I was told that I am being dramatic and had over reacted. when I arrived in my room after 2am, it was filled with these toxins. Now I am coughing uncontrollably and will have to go see a doctor tomorrow because my chest is tight because I’m asthmatic.

This is very dangerous because a generator shouldn’t even be inside! There are people who live with children here and this could have hurt their chests or even worse someone could have died. If this happens again or continues I will have to take legal action because this is unacceptable.

I’ve complained for 2 months that I have no hot water and nothing has been done about that either!
