How complicated can it be to respect my personal phone number?

I find I infuriating that I have to keep asking the customer service department of homechoice to stop calling me for people I do not know. The call centre agent tells me to call customer service and the customer service agents claim my number is linked to no accounts. I really am displeased at this. How complicated can it be to respect my personal phone number?
