Homechoice engaging in irresponsible lending practices

I have an account with homechoice. I however regret ever signing up for this company as once you are sign in to their credit, you can't get out.

I paid out my account with them and then called them on the 5th of April 2019 to close my account. To my shock, its not possible for them to close an account. The response I got from the call centre agent (reference number for call was ********** 35) who I must say was very professional is that the account will be closed if it lies domant for 6 months. So this means that I continue having an account with them in the meantime even though I no longer want it.

At the time of writing my credit limit was 23 thousand rands. Is this not an example of reckless lending? My financial situation right now is such that if I am to buy up to only half that amount I would go bankrupt.

What suprises me is that many other responsible lenders give you an option to close an account once it is paid up. Not with these guys. Such practices need to be stopped in the interests of consumers who are increasingly becoming over indebted. This should not surprise if we have companies such as homechoice being allowed to get away with this.

Please homechoice I want out of this relationship. They also refused to close my wife's account as well when she paid it up last year.
