Having to pay for the consultant's mistake
I purchased the buy 2 get 1 free blanket special at R2000 that Homechoice had in May 2017 and I had requested for the consultant who assisted to place it for a term of 6 months and that I would pay the blankets via cash. I than received the blankets and was satisfied with the blankets. I was at home as i was on maternity leave starting June. I had not received any message concerning the amount i must pay for the month of June, thus i waited for July and a consultant than called me, informing me that i had not paid my homechoice account as yet, thus then asking her for the installment due which she confirmed she would then set up for me to receive via sms. In the first month of payment i received an sms for an amount of plus/minus R211 to pay and i was then excited about the bargain, thinking that i could finish this off quicker if i paid a little bit more, thus i ended up paying between R250 and R350 for the next 4 months following. When i returned from leave, i called to settle my account on the 6th month of payment due as i was under the impression that i was going settle my account and close it. I was then informed that my settlement amount was R1700 and this shocked me as i had been paying more then what i was supposing to be paying, according to the sms's i was receiving, only to find out that my monthly installment was set up at 16 months. I then requested to speak to the teamleader, who then assured to listen to call on the day of purchase and would get back to me. I not receive a call, sms or email providing me with the feedback, thus i decided to call back myself, with the response from Homechoice that i would still need to pay the R1700 settlement balance. Please tell me, which normal, regular, stably employed person, takes 16 months to pay off a R2000 account!
What aggravates me is that this messed up my whole financial plan as i was sure that i would be done with the Homechoice account by December 2017, when i would be returning from leave. This has caused a great inconvenience financially, as i will now be out of budget because of homechoice's mistake of loading a payment plan for 16 months and not 6 months, thus giving me the incorrect monthly installment. This also means that the interest for 16 months could be higher than that for 6 months which cause the high settlement amount. When i called in December to ask whether they can't adjust the term, they told me that i should have called earlier and not now when when realising that the settlement is high. I am highly disgusted with the level of incompetence and insensitivity of the situation.
