********** homechoice account opened with my details

An account was just recently opened using my personal details. I don't understand how it's so easy and quick to open a new account without any verification. When calling the call center to report the account its a long process which also takes months but I'm assuming opening the account didn't take long for that ******** who opened the account. Please assist.
