Slightly dissapointed- gift cards

When I got married on the 30 Nov 2013 I received gift cards from @home and mr price home as gifts. After I got married I packed my gift cards away and actually forgot about them. During January this year I came across them and read the fine print behind the gift cards and read that they expire after 3 years. I went into the @home store in kimberley and enquired about the card they scanned the card for me and indicated that it had expired and I cannot do anything about it. I forfeited R800 on my gift card at ********** I thereafter went to mr price and enquired about my gift cards there. To my suprise they scanned my gift cards and they were still valid and I received these cards the same time as I received the @home gift card. I know that it is due to my own negligence that i forfeited the r800 on my @ home gift card. But it would be nice if @home could implement a grace period for persons who forget about their gift cards or maybe implement the payment of a penalty for the expired gift card to be used. My heart is really shattered that I lost a R800 at @home but I am thankful that mr price home could still assist me.
