Poor service and issue unresolved

My husband and i bought a loft consol just over a year ago. On the 2nd April we heard a CRASH! from the bedroom and ran to see what had happened. The legs of our console had broken at the join (note: there was nothing on the console, or inside the drawers). My husband reported the problem the very next day and a guy (Derek) was sent out to asssess our broken product. He had a look at it and informed me that this problem has been a common one and that the manufacturer is looking at changing the design so that it doesn't happen again. A few days later, Neevan from Gateway contacted me to say that he'd received a verdict form the Head Office - the product was out of warranty and therefore we'd have to pay R650 for new legs or the entire amount for a new product. We are happy to pay for new legs, but certainly not for them to break just out of warranty each time due to a design fault. I asked Neevan to investigate the likelyhood of the legs having been redesigned. No reply. I called him (his email signature said that he was working in Ballito so it took quite a while to track him down at Gateway) and asked for feedback. He said he would get back to me but alas, no response. I've emailed him several times since, only to finally get a response that we'd received already: the verdict came back and we could pay R650 for new legs or the entire amount for a new product. GRRRR. My husband called him and tried to reason with him again; he said he's get back to us. STILL no response. Each time I call at Gateway he's unavailable, on leave for the day or will call me back. Where on earth do we go from here?
