Expired Gift Card

Yesterday 30 July I went to @Home in Wonderboom Junction. At the counter I wanted to pay using my gift card. The guy at the till said that it declines because it has expired. I even still have the slip that comes with the card. He spoke toe his manager and she said that a gift card is only valid for 3 years. I asked if they could please re-activate the card because I cant understand how the money expires. The said they cant do anything and I asked him to phone head office and find out what to do or they must re-activate it from their side. So after a long wait he informed me that they cant do anything either if the card expired.

Here is my ussue with expired gift cards. Yes the card is expired but my problem is still that they have received the actual money that was loaded on the card, how is it possible that it expires then? This is **************** because they are now R300 richer (that has never been claimed) and my friend lost R300 because of an expired plastic card when her koney was good enough to be loaded to this card 4 years ago. If it was cash that I had for 4 years they would have accepted it no problem, the card is basically cash just a safer optjon to just use at one store so since when does cash expire???

I had this problem at a different store a while back as well. But they didnt even flinch, they got on the phone and sorted it out. They confirmed the money on the card and basically just loaded the VALID money on a new gift card so that I could use MY money.

I want this to please be sorted out. I have had my account with the TFG stores for many years but after this I am even considering closing the account because of petty things like this. I am getting the wrong impression of this group. They take money for gift cards but force you to use it when they want you to use it otherwise you forfeit your money and they take it for themselves. Why cant I use my stuff when I want? Why must I be forced to use it within an given time frame?
