Damaged Goods is your problem

I bought a ~R5,000 table at @Home but then the shop had none in stock. So I had to pick it up at the DC in Midrand. I arranged in the morning to pick it up at 13:00 - assembled. On my arrival the warehouse staff came out with two boxes - clearly not assembled as requested. They then wanted to assemble it right there. As this has a wooden top I said no leave the assembly, I will rather assemble it myself at home, where it won’t get damaged. The one guy opened one third of the one box to show me the wooden top and then sealed it again. The other opened the second box, at the top, to show me the *****s and drilled holes in the top part of the legs sticking out to confirm the easy assembly. He sealed the box and loaded both boxes in my car. When I completely took out the legs from the second box at home, I noticed that the bottom half of both steel legs were twisted and damaged to such an extreme that the paint was gone as well. We phoned the shop where we bought it, who has been dealing with the DC since then. The @Home DC is refusing to replace the bent and twisted legs and states that it is my problem as I signed for the two boxes without fully inspecting the contents. And here I was trusting @Home’s packing and stacking processes. Clearly something very heavy was either placed on the box while in storage, or they literally drove over it. So yes, after about a week of this, I just cancelled my account with TFG as well, as I will not be associated with such a bad group.
