Solar installation and Specifications done ✅

With the situation with Eskom only getting worst alot of South Africans are going towards solar and at the beginning of this solar journey for me and possibly many of us it is a terrifying decision to make as there are so many providers and options but how do you know you making the right decision and getting the right equipment. Well that's where HOHM energy comes in, first off you go to there website where you can get lots of information on solar and the different offerings, you then create an account and do a proposal for the expects you can generate it and take the option you generate for the people like me that are new to it and wanted to make sure there is an option to engage a consultant from HOHM energy which I went for. The day came where I enager Neil from HOHM Energy and what a amazing first engagement with HOHM, he explained everything from what devices use the most power to explaining the type of phase I have and then came down to the actually sizing, engaging about current usage, number of gysers, pool pumps, as well as going onto a a app that looks like Google earth but they use to Mapp out the panel layout as well as how effective the sun would be in summer, spring, winter etc. As well as if there are any trees blocking those amazing sunlight.

Once the system is speced you have a couple of options to finance or go cash and is explained by HOHM energy, then HOHM energy appoint a installer in my case Mzansi solar and they send out a site inspection to get a lay of the land, where the batteries Invertor will go, panels, how much cabling is required, how many db boards etc.

This then goes back to HOHM for internal review which is a bit of a black hole as it takes awhile.

In the interim HOHM then assigns a customer support / success manager and in my case it's Lethabo which was absolutely amazing she kept me up to date with the progress and of I had any issues she was my go to and was really amazing.

Then it was D Day installation day, Mzansi solar arrived and was very professional, they delivered all the equipment and started work. Whilst my installation took an entire week (6 days) it was due to a couple of issues: 1. Excessive summer rain - no control ofother nature and the team worked around this. 2. Mzansi solar being to busy and having multiple sites the lead technical engineer was up and down to different sites and constant calls which also impacted the installation time. 3. Broken telephone between site inspection, HOLM energy and installation team as they had instructions to only setup one db board to solar and it was the downstairs area which had delays but eventually sorted out due to lethabo and Anne.

End to end dealing with HOHM energy was a really great experience and best customer service I have had they still check up on me on how it's going. They really walk the journey with the customer which is really a great experience they even go the extra mile to ensure the admin part of registering SSEG with city power you don't have to worry about and they assist which is going the extra mile iny opinion.

However there is room for improvement but I still feel they are 5 stars of greatness. here is my suggestion on areas to improve: 1. Selection of installer - HOHM energy needs a review process of capacity of the installer they select, they also need to ensure the installer will provide dedicated time to the site to ensure it is installed correctly and on time when there is no mother nature impacting them. 2. Day of setup go live there needs to be a person that comes and explains the system the app to the client as it's a learning experience on what should I look out for if something goes wrong what should I do etcm but the customer is left to figure it out on there own which is not great. 3. Broken telephone on requirements between HOHM and supplier as a customer you go through an initial assessment, site inspection and then HOHM review within that process the supplier and HOHM need to be aligned to ensure customer expectations are met.

Overall a really great experience and will only get better with continuous improvement and tweaking as we are always learning.

Hoping after sales support is just as great.

Hi Dominic,

Thank you very much for your honest and transparent review as well as the proposed areas of improvement.  We have set up a session with your feedback so that we may incorporate it into our process optimisation and improvement as it is really relevant and appreciated.

Reviewer Update
My initial review of HOHM Energy was 5 stars of the best experience for a first time solar purchase and great assistance throughout the process. However after 6 months of having the kit installed i have had endless problems and each time taking 3 to 4 weeks to have someone come out to assess or do a site inspection, Then the day comes to resolve the issues but causing more issues and then also debates with installers on what needs to be done vs what they willing to do. Engagement with HOHM is also professional but the turn around time between HOHM and the installer or field technician is painfully and thus the after sales is not been great. The unit works 90% with 10% being teething issues or just bad luck however to get that 10% completed is a 6 month story and might even be a year. So based on this after sales i honestly wouldn't recommend them and would reduce the experience to 3 stars - average service.

Hi Dominic,

Oh dear, this is not good at all.  I have just raised this concern with our team to prioritise them looking into this as a matter of urgency.  Thank you for raising the frustration and affording us an opportunity to remediate this for you.

Hi Dominic,

I have just received word back from our team that our Field Services Manager has been engaging with yourself and they have identified the gap where the process went wrong.  Although we will work in parallel to ensure that this gap is closed going forward, an installer team has been scheduled to be at your premises tomorrow morning and our Field Service Manager will accompany them.

I'll keep a close eye on progress to ensure this is followed through.
