I purchased a pair of shorts for my husband at H&M at the V&A Waterfront a bit more than a month ago. I cannot recall the exact date, as I in fact shopped at that particular shop a couple of times in one week (for various members of the family and a friend). When my husband tried it on at home, it was far too small. Interestingly I had also bought another pair of shorts in the same size, that fitted perfectly.

I went to the shop yesterday to have it exchanged / refunded. I was advised that I needed the original till slip, and without same they could not do the exchange / refund, despite the item still having all its original labeling. Alternatively, I have to give them the exact date that the item was purchased (as if anyone would be able to remember) and then they can look it up... and possibly refund me.

Needless to say, I did not keep the slip (as no shops require it - as long as the items has its original labelling), and I cannot remember on which exact day I bought it.

I thought this very bizarre. If you bought the item at any other well known clothing shop in SA, you would have received an immediate refund, no problems.

So now, I have a piece of useless cloth at the price of R399. What happened to customer service?
