Management at 36 Hampton Avenue clearly does not care about students. After a power outage, all the meat in my fridge spoiled. As an NSFAS-funded student whose allowance had not yet been paid, this was a serious financial loss. I respectfully asked for compensation and was completely dismissed. Their response? The outage was “not their problem” and we should take our fridges to other houses during outages, which is unrealistic and not something anyone agreed to when signing a lease. Students are paying rent. The least management can do is invest in proper backup solutions and fix ongoing issues like broken doors. The lack of accountability and basic empathy is unacceptable. Prospective tenants should think carefully before moving here.

We are sorry for the frustration caused by the power outage. We understand how upsetting it is when food spoils, especially when finances are already tight.

The outage is due to a municipal supply failure and is unfortunately outside of our control. We are following up with COJ on a regular basis. While we truly empathise with the impact this has had on both our tenants and ourselves, losses arising from municipal outages are unfortunately outside of what we are able to cover.

We have since put measures in place to assist during outages where possible and to help reduce the impact going forward.

We care about our tenants and their living experience here. Concerns are not dismissed, even when the outcome is not what someone hoped for. We remain committed to maintaining the property and attending to maintenance issues as they are reported. We value our tenants and appreciate all feedback.
