Hisense - DO NOT BUY - Taking them to the ombud.

Bought a new Hisense TV, unboxed it, plugged it in, it went on. Great. Mounted it and the cord was to short, extended the cord. Once it was mounted it turned out the remote doesnt work. Phoned support to get a new remote - get this, putting in a new plug means we are not covered by the warranty for a new remote, we need to buy a new remote. I read up on this and if you extend a cord or change a plug it does not void the warranty according to the Ombud. Article: https://www.timeslive.co.za/news/consumer-live/2016-07-28-ask-wendy-ombuds-about-turn-on-plug-changing/. "The supplier's liability is only excluded insofar as the breach of the imp**** warranty is attributable to the alterations. “If the breach is still attributable to an unaltered characteristic or a defect, unrelated to the alterations, a supplier may not escape liability,” In other words, a supplier still has to honour the CPA six-month warranty, unless the problem was caused by the changing of the plug, or whatever the alteration happens to be. Changing a plug has nothing to do with a remote not working.
