Misleading Newspaper Advert – Hirsch’s Montana Refuses Accountability

On 26 September 2025, Hirsch’s Montana ran an advert in the Pretoria North Rekord for their “End of Range Sale.” In the pricing table, the last column is incorrectly labelled “NOW” instead of “SAVE”. The word “NOW” should have appeared in the second pricing column to show the selling price, while the last column should have reflected the saving. This misleading layout creates confusion and gives the impression of even bigger discounts than what is actually offered.

I went to Hirsch’s Montana branch to purchase based on this advert. I raised the issue with Mario, who escalated it to senior managers. However, instead of acknowledging the mistake and meeting me halfway, they dismissed the issue and offered only a 4% discount — calling that the best they could do.

This was not a small typo; it was an advert approved and published in a widely distributed newspaper. Customers were misled, and Hirsch’s is now refusing to take proper responsibility. A token 4% discount is not fair compensation for their error.

Hirsch’s needs to be held accountable for misleading advertising. As a customer, I expected honesty and a genuine attempt to make things right, not to be brushed off with excuses and a token discount.
