If only I had gone onto Hellopeter before shopping at Hirsh's. I would never have set foot in the store!

I bought an LG Microwave from Hirsh's on 6 June 2020. In November, the electronics failed i.e. the cooking cycle continued, even when the door of the microwave was opened. It only stopped when the electricity was turned off at the wall - an extremely dangerous fault, especially if a child put their hands inside the oven without realising the detrimental effect of the micro waves. I returned the microwave to Hirsh's on 29 November 2020 and suggested that they should replace the oven after it had been assessed by LG. In my opinion, I had bought a 'lemon' (once a 'lemon', always a 'lemon').

The woman in the returns department told me that Hirsh's will repair but do not replace goods. I explained to her that it may be their policy, however, the Consumer Protection act gives the consumer the right to request a replacement or refund if the goods are found to be faulty and returned within 6 months of purchase. She argued the point, however, I was in agreement with them sending the oven to LG to assess the problem as I did not expect a replacement or refund if they did not have absolute proof of the fault. The subsequent communication I received from Hirsh's was that the microwave had been fixed and is ready for collection... they have blatantly ignored the Consumer Protection law and bul**** me into accepting the 'lemon' that they sold me in the first place.

Extract from the Consumer Protect Act (https://www.saconsumercomplaints.co.za/your-rights/): "If goods or products are of inferior quality, unsafe or defective, the consumer are permitted to return the goods to the supplier without any penalty and at the suppliers risk and expense within a period of (6) six months after receipt. Suppliers are obliged to refund, repair or replace the defective goods at the discretion of the consumer".

It's the first and last time that I will EVER shop at Hirsh's. It would be advisable to go into Hirsh's to view any electronics and appliances and then order online from a reputable online store.
