We lodged a faulty airconditioning unit in November 2016 under warranty at the branch where we bought the units - Meadowdale. After no feedback within a week we went back and found that they had not lodged it with the Fourwats branch.

Once lodged, it took them another 2 weeks to come out where we waited a whole working day (which my wife took off) for them to come after 17h30.

The service technician (incorrectly) diagnosed the compressor and said one would be ordered.

Another 2 weeks passesbefore I call to follow up where I am told that the compressor is coming the following Tuesday or Wednesday when it will be fitted - it isn't.

All told the new compressor was only fitted a few days before Christmas - about 6 weeks after the original complaint was laid.

The technician incorrectly diagnosed the fault as the aircon works less than 20% of the time. When he came out to inspect it he said he could find no fault (even though it sounded like he re-gassed the unit outside). He then said If I turn the unit off then on again it will take the unit anything up to 10 minutes to kick in - which sounded plausible. However, we have the exact same unit in out lounge and it kicks in immediately.

He said unless I can demonstrate repreatedly in front of him that the unit doesn't work he cannot help. Which is a fair statement if he had done any fault finding. He only came into the house once to turn the unit on and at no point checked the unit inside to check for issues there.

He did not follow any fault finding sequence whatsoever but insists that there is no fault to be found and that Hirsch's will not absorb any cost if he replaces anything that is not faulty - but he replaced a perfectly funtioning compressor, so he is already wrong.

If Hirsch's wishes to send a technician to my house at 23h45 - as I am writing this - you can gladly see what 16 degrees feels like on a non-working airconditioning unit.

But they take a number of days to come out each time and send an unqualified technician who demonstrates a severe lack of understanding of a fault finding process.

Hirsch's has been much more helpful in the last few days - the unit is still problematic but they have sent qualified technicians out to try solve the problem and are now getting the manufacturer to honour the warranty on the entire outdoor unit.
