Failure to pay over TV Licence fee to SABC

I purchased a TV from HIRSCH's Springfield Park on the 11th April 2017. I was informed by the Salesperson that my TV Licence was in arrears and I had to pay an amount of R291.50 before I could take possession of the TV. I paid the outstanding TV Licence and collected the TV.

The problem is, HIRSCH, did not pay over the collected TV licence fee to the SABC.

Because of this, I have been receiving calls all part of the day and night from a call centre harassing me for the outstanding fees. They phone my cell from a private number and before I can answer the call is cut off. Then the house phone rings. And you have to explain that you have already paid the licence fees. A few days later the same thing again. Difference call centre person. I brought this matter to the attention of HIRSCH Springfield Park Admin Manager, Jessica, and I am always promised that the matter will be resolved. It appears, from her, that the delay is from Head Office.

HIRSCH eventually paid SABC the R291.50 on the 23/9/2017.

Unfortunately, the delay in payment to SABC has incurred interest. According to Jessica, who only responds whenever I phone her, HIRSCH will pay the full outstanding amount. Nothing happens and the calls start again. Irrespective of the outstanding TV Licence amount, a dealer cannot release the TV unless the outstanding fees are settled in full. Thereafter it is the responsibility of the Dealer to pay over the fees to SABC as soon as they receive the funds. If not, they should be charged for withholding the fees, pay the outstanding interest and be prosecuted.

I am only receiving empty promises from Jessica to resolve the matter.

HIRSCH is a national company which I have dealt with many times and to have its reputation tarnished by inefficient staff for about R200 is not a good reflection on the company. I have made numerous calls and written e-mails to Jessica to resolve this matter. Hopefully, Management will react more positively once this matter is brought to their attention. Even though Jessica informs me that she is a Manager.
