On 02 May 2016 I purchased a De Longhi Il Gelato ice-cream machine from Hirsch in Springfield Park. It was a promotion price of R2000, and I had to collect the item from their Umgeni Road warehouse.

Sometime after I had been using the machine, I noticed that the inner stainless steel bowl had developed some corrosion, and, in fact, it had started pitting in some areas. This had not affected the actual operation of the machine, and, as I had been busy, I only got around to taking the machine into Hirsch's for attention/asssessment on 04 November 2016, which, as it turns out, happens to be outside the 6 month CPA stipulation for replacement of an item, by a matter of 2 (two) days.

On calling at Hirsch's today, I was informed that they would be repairing the machine, rather than replacing it. Of course, Hirsch are entirely within their rights to do so, but, one would have thought that, perhaps, given the fact that the 6 month limit had barely expired - 48 hours, some leeway could have been entertained by someone in authority, given that the client in question, yours truly, had spent in the region of R100000 on appliances at Hirsch's within the same period.

Suffice it to say that my future purchases will be made at a retailer who values client loyalty over the letter of the law.
