Refusal of refund after cancelling my stay for medical reasons while pregnant

On a recent trip to Dubai for work, I fell ill while 5 months pregnant, ended up going to hospital and as a result, cutting my trip short to return home to seek medical advice from my practitioner. This meant that I had to cancel my booking with hotels.com for a 2 night stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Dubai Mall of the Emirates. After explaining this unpleasant experience and requesting a refund, I was told this could not be done. I am beyond disappointed by this response and the lack of understanding for a situation which was out of my control. I won't be using Hilton hotels again.
