Hilltop Constuction Company

Hilltop Construction company (http://hilltopconstruction.co.za/contact/ ) calims in their mission statement that their constuctions are ‘safe and efficient quality assured’. We however had a run in. We approached Barry Mathew as we knew about him from social circles. We trusted him and unfortunately did not thoughroughly research him and asked for references. He was instucted to paint our walls prior to placing our property on the market for the Decemeber rush. We walked through and explained what we required prior to the job starting and that we needed to complete the job as soon as possible. He then proceeded to paint the walls, AND the ceiling grey - not at all as instucted. We asked him to repaint the ceiling white (at out own cost). After job completion we went to inspect the property and found multiple empty fast food containers, plastic groundsheets not being removed, cigarette packages and other rubish items that had not been removed. In inspection of the paint job we found that large pieces of paint was peeling off the wall because of damp. No assessment of the underlying damp was made, despite if being blaringly obvious. In adittion, the quality of the paint job around fixtures were appauling. Paint was smeared on shelving and other fixtures and the underlying paint was still shining through.

On confronting Barry he was verbally agressive and said that the job has been finished and that he quality was acceptable. We eventually paid him to to get out of our lives. We paid R12 550-00 for 4 days of work, but had to redo about 75% of the work. Stay clear of Barry and Hilltop Constuction - seems like a nice bloke at first, but a *****.
