Cracked marblelite, lifted paving, abandoned job

Appointed Hannes Kroukam from High Quality Paving as our pool renovator and paver and it was one of our worst and most frustrating jobs ever.

Hannes gains your trust and comes across as very competent, but that's where it ends.

The job took just under 3 months to complete (he did 90% of the work in the first 6 days). I paid Hannes the majority of his fees at the end of the first week and only withheld a little (10%) to keep him honest to come back and finish off the last bit of paving. That was my mistake. Within 2 weeks cracks started forming on my marblelite. I now have 16 individual (and large) cracks on my marblelite which is clearly visible from the outside. I am yet to determine if they leak with all this rain. He also did such a bad job on the paving that I've now had to bring in my own tiler, drive back to the paving supplier and pick up additional pavers at my own time and cost and have my tiler fix it as best as possible.

The lesson I learnt from this was: withhold enough of his payment to keep him honest. The fact that he abandoned the job speaks for itself. He realised it would cost him more to fix his bad workmanship than earn the last 10%.

I can't tell you which pool company or paving company to use, but there's so much competition out there. Stay away from this one.
