Hi-Q and excessive damage to new tyres
I am a good customer of Hi-Q having had good service from them in the past. My complaint relates to the following:
On 8 May 2018 I had 2 brand new front tyres fitted to my car at Hi-Q Wynberg. The new tyres were balanced and wheel alignment was done. Mileage at time of fitting 83782km according to invoice.
This month I noticed that the steering was heavy and the tyres appeared damaged as compared to the back tyres. The damage was in the form of deep shredding and gouges in the tyre treads. I have photographs of the tyres.
I took them back to Hi-Q for inspection and was told that the damage on tyres was due "to off roading" which I don't accept because I don't do off road driving.
I fitted 4 new tyres at Hi-Q at a total cost of R11510.
I was informed by owner of Hi-Q that a meeting with the tyre company representative would be arranged and this has been set for Monday 18 March. I appreciate this. But in the interim I have received a report saying that the tyres were damaged as a result of driving on "rough surfaces" and that the tyres had not been rotated.
I am a 73 year old retired doctor. I do not do any off road driving. I travel in town on tar and on long distance tar road to our national parks and on the tar and gravel roads within our national parks. I repeat that I do not do any off road driving.
These new tyres show excessive and dangerous damage. The back tyres did not show any similar damage other than wear. I have asked the owner of Hi-Q to keep all the tyres for inspection.
It is my contention that I should be given a credit or discount on the damaged tyres because in my opinion these tyres show excessive and dangerous damage after a period of only 10 months use and after about 15000km. I paid R3950 for the two tyres in 2018.
Tyres are an important part of safety in the use of a car. These tyres show excessive and dangerous damage and it is my opinion that I should be refunded on the price I paid for them in 2018.
