On the 16th of November 2024 9:47 I bought a Canon Pixma G2430 Megatank from Hi Fi Corp Menlyn Mall. My printer was not tested in the shop to make sure it works. I did not unpack or use the printer because I had too much designing to finish before I could start printing. On 30th I printed my first colour page (which I took with me to Hi Fi Corp) The print was defective. There were lines on my page. I printed a test page through the printer software. It looked ok. I printed another colour page, it had lines and the colour also looked wrong. I did a head cleaning through the printer software. Printed another page, had lines. I did a deep cleaning through the printer software and a head alignment and my last print still had lines. I opened up the lid and saw that my printer heads did not move to the middle but was stuck on the right side. I decided to leave it like that and not bother any further and make a plan on Sunday. On Sunday 1 December morning at 9:00 I phoned Hi Fi Corp Menlyn and explained my problem. They said to bring in the printer. (14 days and 24 hours after purchase of printer) At just before 10:00 me and my husband arrived with the printer neatly packed in its original packaging. The first person to help me, took out the printer, set it on a table and printed 2 test pages by scanning a newspaper that was on the desk. It showed lines. He then proceeded to open the lid and saw the printer heads were stuck to the right side. He also told me that there was a lot of air in one of the small “ink pipes”. He said that there was definitely something wrong with the printer. He then proceeded to talk to a lady in the back and said I must wait at customer service for someone to help me. I waited and when the Lady came out (I have her name) she said that they are going to book the printer for repairs and it will take 21 working days. I said no, that is not ideal for me, this machine will be my income for the month and that I bought a defective printer and would like an exchange. She would not budge and called another Lady (I have her name). She said that the Consumer Act states that I only have 14 days to return an item and that they must sort it out first with their consumer, which I presumed is Canon. I told her that I did not buy the printer from Canon but from Hi Fi Corp. I said that I would like to talk to the branch manager. So I bought a broken printer and then must take it after it's fixed?! No! I wanted a brand new working printer for the money I paid. They got the branch manager, on the phone (I have his name). I explained that I bought the printer 14 days and 24hours ago and that it’s defective. I did not use it until 2 days ago and now I would like a new one. He made me out to be a **** and said, I must make sure you are not lying and maybe used it the whole two weeks and now suddenly something is wrong with it. He was actually saying that maybe I broke it! The Lady, Sharon even took a photo to show that the ink that I received with the printer is still full. If diagnostics are run I'm sure they will see how many pages I've printed on the printer and will then show that I am not lying! She checked the whole printer and said she could see that it had not been used and was still brand new. Why would I lie and say I did not use the printer if I did?! I’m very upset at the unprofessionalism of the employees. I had to leave the printer there and was in tears all the way to the car because I’m losing income. The consumer Act states that I as a consumer are entitled to receive goods that are of good quality, in good working order and free of any defects. But Hi Fi Corp did not follow this act when I returned my Printer. The Consumer Act also states that consumers are permitted to return goods to suppliers, without PENALTY, and at the SUPPLIERS RISK and expense, within a period of 6 months if the goods are of inferior quality, unsafe or defective. The Act further states that I have a right to choose (my choice was taken from me and I was made out to be a ****), Right to fair and honest dealing (was made a **** by the branch manager and employees), Right to fair value, Good quality and safety (This was not my experience at all!), right to accountability from suppliers (Sadly there was no accountability, they just wanted to put the blame on me. There was no sympathy for my loss of income, they would not listen to reason and just gave me an emotionless stare and said I will just have to do it their way) My heart is broken and my business in shambles. Will Hi Fi Corp pay my money that I’m losing? Will Hi Fi Corp pay the costs that will be incurred if I decide to use a professional printing company? Hi Fi Corp just shrugged shoulders and would just not replace my printer. I just want my new, replaced printer. Not the broken defective one that I bought. And not in 21 working days. I wanted it yesterday. Everyone wants to buy a product in perfect working order! No one would like to buy a broken product.
I will never do business with Hi fi Corp again.
(EDIT: After 8:00 this morning 2nd of Dec, I gave Hi Fi Corp head office a call and explained the above mentioned. The Lady stated that she is sorry about what I went through but the procedure will be followed. She did not give any way to help me and just said that is how they do it and I will only receive my printer in approx. 21 working days. She was of no help.)
(EDIT: Sent this message via email to HIFI Corp Head office on the morning of 2nd Dec. They rep**** that night and said I will recieve a call back in 24 hours. No call backs to date.)
