Warranty on products

I bought a Philips hand mixer and it has a 2 year warranty written on the box and the purchase slip. A year later i have problems with mixer. I take it back and I am told its 12months warranty. How and why the misrepresentation? They say you only get two years if you bought online but why is my purchase slip written 2 years in black and white?
