Defective TCL Mini-LED TV & Poor Support from HiFi Corp Cornubia
I purchased a TCL Mini-LED TV from HiFi Corp Cornubia, which was delivered on 24 June 2025. Upon careful installation, the TV immediately displayed screen defects, including “light bleed”.
I contacted the store, and despite being well within the Consumer Protection Act’s 6-month window, I was told they “cannot easily replace TCL TVs” and that it’s a “manufacturer issue.” This is unacceptable and legally incorrect.
Under Section 56 of the CPA, I am entitled to a replacement, repair, or refund for defective goods, and my contract is with HiFi Corp, not the manufacturer. Shifting responsibility to TCL is a breach of consumer rights.
I have shared photographic evidence, proof of careful handling, and my receipt. The fault was reported almost immediately, yet HiFi Corp has offered no clear resolution.
This is highly disappointing for a premium product and a known retailer. I am now publicly requesting that HiFi Corp: • Acknowledge the fault • Replace the TV promptly • Honour their obligations under South African consumer law
If unresolved, I will escalate to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) and the National Consumer Commission (NCC).
I would also advise that I purchased 2 other significant appliances from hi-fi corporation as part of this purchase.
