Two hours to collected a pre-booked rental.

On Saturday, 03/09/2016, we met overseas friends at OR Tambo Airport. They had pre-booked a rental vehicle via Hertz, in order to continue their onward journey to Kruger Park.

After waiting in a queue (of only 3 people) for 40 minutes, in the terminal building, we were directed to the parking area to collect the vehicle, only to be told that the vehicle was being kept at a holding area 6kms away, and would take 15 minutes to be brought to the branch. 15 minutes came and went and over and hour later, the vehicle arrived. The process of collecting a pre-booked vehicle took 2 hours.

Sarah, the Hertz employee behind the desk was rude, disorganised and lacking in people s****s. Upon enquiring with her how much longer we would have to wait (Kruger Gate closes at 18h00, and our friends we in danger of missing their entrance to the park, where their accommodation was booked) she literally turned her back on us – flat out ignored us, no apology or information was forthcoming.

We were not the only people that had waited a significant amount of time for a pre-booked rental vehicle to be delivered. Why pre-book at all if the vehicle is not going to be ready and waiting at the appointed time?

I am very embarrassed that this is part of the first impression that international guests get of South Africa.
