Toll gate RIP-OFF
I have recently been provided with a courtesy car by Ford since my car is in for warranty repair. The gave me a rental car from Hertz. Driving regularly between Rustenburg and Pretoria, I use the N4 Bakwena freeway. The car was fitted with an E-tag. I was shocked however to see the toll fees that were charged to my credit card. Upon further investigation I noticed that the fees were exactly 48% higher than the gate tariffs.
I contacted their customer care and was told that that Hertz charges and admin fee on top of the toll fee and that this is stated on the contract and the website. The contract merely states that there is an admin fee and the website says you must use a non-etag lane to avoid the admin fee. In other words you have to pay for the gate by cash or card. The problem is that all lanes have etag sensors, so this is impossible.
I would have been content on an admin fee of 10%, but 48% is ludicrous. It must be a very lucrative business to make 48% return on all manual toll gates passed through by their cars. Brilliant idea for making lot of money by doing absolutely nothing - a total RIP-OF
