Poor customer service and Incompetant staff

On the 24th August, my husband and i landed at Cape Town International Airport on honeymoon. We did a online booking prior to our arrival. After collecting the car, a polo TSI hatch 1.4 we did a inspection of the car and all seemed fine. After driving for a mere 50km, the petrol gauge showed three quarter. The next morning my husband called the call centre to notify them of this. The consultant on the other side, advised that she made a note of this and said when returning the car we should not fill the car. My husband took note of her name.

On the 30th August we returned the car with the car half full. Days later my husband received a debit on his account from Hertz Rent A Car. When i called, i was told it was to fill the car with fuel. I related to them what had happened and gave the consultant name my husband spoke to. The customer care consultant advised she would be in contact with the consultant and her manager and would revert. A week and a half had passed and no phone call from Hertz. I called them again and was told by the same customer care consultant she was still waiting for an answer and their was no note made on the system. The next day my husband received a message advising the petrol gauge was faulty and the amount debited to his account was correct as this was to re-fuel the car to full.

Havent worked in the travel industry for a number of years, i am firstly utterly disgusted as there is no customer service and secondly when we have it in writing (black and white)from the car rental car company acknowledging the fuel gauge was faulty and yet they took money for petrol. They admit to the mistake but at the same time take money. Can you imagine how many more people they have taken on.

I strongly recommend rather pay the extra money and hire a car from a reputable car rental company and have peace of mind!
