Poor administration and service from Hertz.
We have hired cars from Hertz over the last year or so and generally they have been reasonable. This last contract has not been as good, in fact it's been downright poor. We hired a car in CT last year (2025) during November for three weeks. During the late afternoon of the 5th June 2026 (Friday) I received an invoice for R400 for an admin fee for processing a traffic fine that I received in November last year (2025) while driving the hire car in Knysna . The invoice does not give banking details. It does however tell me that, although it was issued on the 5th of June, I need to pay by the 5th of June.
We've now sent three emails to three different people in the Hertz Group asking for banking details and not one of them has bothered to reply with the details. All we've had is an email response passing us on to somebody else. This is typical of tick the box and pass on the problem. The irony, of course, is that the ticket, which we were then told to track ourselves because Hertz could not give us the information, was issued and due for payment by the 12th of January this year. So in summary, all Hertz did was issue an invoice for R400. They could not be bothered to give us any further information. We were told to source it ourselves. They could not even be bothered to put their banking details on the invoice nor could they be bothered to reply with their banking details.
I managed to get the details myself from the Knysna traffic department. The irony, of course, is that the fine was for R200 so I've paid Hertz R400 for them to do nothing and I still need to pay a R200 fine.
I must be clear: I have no objection to paying the fine. I do have an objection to the way Hertz treats their customers. Well I tell you what, Hertz. I do have a booking for a vehicle already for five days in Cape Town this month. I'm not going to cancel it because I will lose the deposit, but I do promise you one thing: you've lost me as a customer and we will not be settling that R400 fine until somebody sends us banking details. I have documentary proof so......... see you in court.
