Please Do Not Use Hertz Rent A Car Services! They do not refund deposits

I am very dissatisfied with Hertz Pretoria Branch.

I rented a car from them for 3 days and returned the car on the 20th of March, clean with no damage at all with a full tank of fuel as per their rental agreement.

Upon taking the car, I enquired with the person who was assisting me, how long will the deposit (R12000) take to be refunded, he assured me that they now have a new system and it will take 3 days maximum for the deposit to be refunded provided there are no damages on the vehicle.

Upon returning the car, they did their inspection of the vehicle and the vehicle was without a fault - I enquired again with the same sales person/receptionist how long will the deposit take to be refunded? He assured me again by Monday/Tuesday it will be refunded. On Thursday, the 28th of May, 8 days after returning the vehicle my deposit was has not been refunded - I called and demanded to speak to the manager and the manager said she has no idea why they told me that they will refund my deposit within 3 days and she can not confirm when my deposit will be refunded.

Today is the 8th of June 2026 and my deposit has still not been refunded despite multiple phone calls and email regarding this matter. Only ducking and diving and no response to my emails.

Please do yourself a favour and run when you see Hertz because their pathetic customer service & dishonesty really hurts.
