No feedback, no joy, R1750 later

On 8-9 June, I rented a car from Hertz at OR Tambo. Upon returning the vehicle, the receiving Hertz staff member decided that there dents on the car which had not been there before, and opened a claim. I was told that an investigation would be conducted, following which I would be informed and the necessary action taken. In the interim, Hertz kept half of the excess deposit, i.e. R1 750, as security in the event that their claim was successful. For context, the car was one of the oldest rentals I have ever driven, with almost 70 000km on the clock. There were multiple scratches and dents on the car already.

It is now 5 weeks later. I have not been kept in the loop at all by Steinhoff, their appointed claims investigators, and am only ever contacted when I email them and ask for feedback. Despite repeated requests for feedback, they continue to simply tell me the investigation is still underway. No timelines have been provided, and in the iterim I am still R1 750 short!

Really poor service. I will not rent from Hertz again.
