Misleading sales tactics to earn money, not kosher
We rented a car with unlimited mileage which does stipulate 3 days, and the salesperson said but if you use it for Less than 3 days, you will be credited for the unused days. We asked him if he is sure. He confirmed he is sure about it. He then worked out the calculations with us, R1500 to drop off at another branch, and the total of R2740 gets divided by 3, and if tge vehicle is used for 2 days, the 1 day will be credited. All good.
When we dropped the vehicle off less than 24 hours later, they claim there is no such thing, we called the salesman, and he agreed that it is what he told us, but the manager at OR Tambo says it can't be changed on the system. The manager at the branch where we took the vehicle was insisting we listen to her first and not explain our side of the story, she was getting very rude and disrespectful, I told her that I am the client, and I am the one that has the problem win the situation, she dropped the call few times, we had to call back, and then she puts us on hold indefinitely.
I called the area manager and also got the salesman online on the same call, tge area manager agrees that the salesman said we will get credit for the days not used, but she insists it changes the package, that was not what we were told. She did admit that the salesman failed to do that, but that error by the salesman costed us R2143.60.
It seems they offer a service that other car rental companies don't offer, (getting credited for early returns on the unlimited mileage option at a rate calculated upon collection of the vehicle) to make sure that you will use Hertz instead of another rental company, and when returning the vehicle, that option doesn't exist on their system. After you have already used the vehicle, it's too late.
It's a shame that HelloPeter doesn't allow a rating of less than 1.
