Hertz/Firefly - Credit card ****

Be very, very careful indeed about giving your credit card to these guys.

I can live with the fact that they put a much larger and longer hold on your card than their competitors (18k for a small car) - that's okay. But once they have your details, they will use it to indiscriminately charge (without your consent) whatever they feel like. I returned my vehicle with a tiny chip in the windshield. No probs - it usually costs a few rand... with other companies, at least. In this instance, my R600 rental turned into R10 000 of "repairs" "fees", etc – with me helplessly watching as they deduct ridiculous new amounts, with no control over this whatsoever. I'm an easy-going guy and I don't really fight with companies – these guys treated me more rudely than I have ever been treated by anyone. A hard pass from me in future.
