Hertz *******

On 15th September, I hired a Renault Clio from Hertz at King Shaka Airport in Durban. I have dealt with Hertz for over 25 years all over the world. On the 28th September 2017 I stopped at the Sasol garage at the airport to fill the tank so I would return the car full of fuel as per the agreement. I supervised the petrol attendant to ensure the car was completely full and drove 250 metres to the Hertz return point.

Having got back home to London, I received a charge from Hertz of R108.50 for fuel. I wrote and explained the situation but received an email saying that unless I was able to provide proof of the fuel top up, they could do nothing. In return, I asked for proof that they required R108.50 worth of fuel. In response, Hertz sent me an extract of a spreadsheet showing 8.2 litres costing R108.50. They didn't seem to be able to show me their records of when the car was physically returned. I am deeply disappointed and will not use Hertz again.

Have received a detailed reply from Cindy Scharneck providing all the information originally requested and some additional information. This has clarified the matter and I will certainly consider Hertz again should I revisit South Africa.
