Hertz Car Rental Refund *****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am writing today to complain of the poor service I received from Hertz Rent a Car specifically Hertz Windhoek International Airport.

On the 30th of October 2022 I rented a vehicle at Hertz Windhoek International Airport. On my arrival I was informed that I needed to use a credit card for the holding deposit which will be released when I return the vehicle. I advised the lady assisting me that I do not have a credit card I only have a visa DEBIT card. She told me that I can use the DEBIT card however I will receive the refund within a month after dropping off the vehicle.

I swiped my DEBIT card, the holding deposit was deducted from my account. My bank statement shows the amount deducted from my bank account.

I returned the vehicle on the 3rd of November 2022 at Hertz Windhoek International Airport. The vehicle was in the same condition I picked it up. After the recon, I was advised that the only amount that will be deducted will be for the fuel.

After a month I contacted Hertz Windhoek International Airport to follow up on my refund as I was advised that I will receive it within a month from dropping off the car. I was assisted by Mr Romess Bock who told me that DEBIT cards are a problem, I told Mr Romess Bock that they cannot tell me that DEBIT cards are a problem after the funds have been deducted from my account and they need to refund me. Had they advised me that DEBIT cards are a problem prior deducting funds from my account I would have opted to use another service provider. He then indicated that the money was not deducted from my account they only put a hold on the funds, and I should contact my bank. I contacted my bank asking them to release the funds and provided them with "authorization number". The bank advised me that it is not possible to put a hold on funds using a DEBIT card the amount was deducted as a purchase and the service provider needs to make a refund payment to my account. I then sent the communication from my bank to Hertz stating that the amount went out in a form of a purchase. I have been contacting Mr Romess Bock daily for the past month trying to get my refund back and he advised me that the is nothing he can do I must sort it out with the bank. I sent them my statement and the email from the bank shows that the amount was debited from my account. It is the 30th of January 2023 almost three months after I dropped off the vehicle and I still have not received my confirmed holding deposit refund of +- R17,000.00.

I have tried to contact Herzt customer care using the phone number on the website the line does not work *** or +***0. I have sent complaint emails to *** I get an automanted response saying "If you have not received a ticket number, please resend your email"

I do not know how Hertz conducts business with valued customers. If anyone has experience this with Herts please advise on how you where assisted to get your money back because I am running out of options. Do I need to take the legal route?
