Avoid Hertz

I have a number of issues with this company, due to which I will stringently avoid doing business with them in future. 1) While making the booking on their website, it is not possible (at least not easy) to determine the additional costs of insurance. The standard excess payment is R 13 000 on the lowest class of vehicles, so taking out the additional insurance is not really optional. This makes it very difficult to compare their quoted price with that of competitors. 2) Even after paying the rather exorbitant insurance premium of R 180 per day (on the lowest class of car), I was still expected to pay an excess amount of R 3 000 in case of any damage to the car. 3) They charge a ridiculous fuel deposit. The car I rented had a small fuel tank; it cost me about R 500 to fill it from empty. The fuel deposit came in at R 1 650. **************** if ever there was such a thing. 4) Most importantly: It is now more than three weeks since I returned the vehicle with a full tank of fuel, and not a cent of the fuel deposit has been refunded. It still shows as an uncleared amount on my credit card. This despite numerous emails to their so called customer support service.

In short, avoid this company if you can. I certainly will.
